The Vacation House Above Kennewick
What the family wanted
This was not a primary residence. It was built as a vacation home, which changes what a family cares about. They were not solving for a commute or for school districts. They were solving for what they would see when they walked in the door and what the place would feel like on the days they actually got to use it.
The lot did most of that work. It sits high enough that you look out over Kennewick, and once you have that, the job becomes making sure the house takes advantage of it instead of turning its back on it.
How the build went
Straightforward. It was a lot inside a subdivision, which means the utilities were already there and the site work was the simple part of the project.
I would build this design again tomorrow for another family. That is not something I say about every plan we have drawn. Some houses work on paper and then feel smaller than they should once you are standing in them. This one landed the way it was supposed to.
¿Cuántos pies cuadrados tiene? Es el dato que más se nota que falta en una página de proyecto.
¿Qué barrio de Kennewick? Southridge, Canyon Lakes, Badger Mountain Foothills, otro. Sin dirección exacta, solo la zona.
¿El garaje de cuántos autos?
¿Qué hizo tu taller en esta casa?
What we are proud of here
The view. And the fact that when I look at this plan I want to build it again.
Inside the Build
Editorial Blocker
John needs to provide a photo of the view from the house or porch. Without it, the entire premise of the page falls flat visually. (3D Renders can be included here but must be labeled as "Design Visualizations").

An elevated lot is worth what you pay for it only if the house is designed around what you can see from it. That conversation happens before anything is drawn.
